Aim of IAH'2017

From 2000 to 2010, an estimated 6 million people per year were added to the world’s urban slum population, out of a total 58 million new urban dwellers per year in the developing world (UN-Habitat 2010b). And as traditional building methods can no longer cope to cover the needs of this exploding population Industrialized Affordable Housing is being looked at.

By using value engineering and especially an industrial approach to home building (standardizing design elements and using prefabricated component manufactured off-site, for example), and by adopting efficient procurement methods and other process improvements, project delivery costs can be reduced by about 30 percent and completion schedules can be shortened by about 40 percent.

In addition to absorbing the very latest in best practice developments in both Industrialized Affordable Housing and urban design from around the world, this conference will directly embrace numerous affordable and urban neighborhoods in developing countries that have become iconic in their own right. k Analysis and Intelligence data Analysis also constitute the driving forces in present day military and security operations, the conference also embraces these aspects in the certainty that the cross-fertilization of military thought and business environments can only lead to simulation product improvement

The Industrialized Affordable Housing Conference is structured around the following topics.

Industrialized Affordable Housing Construction

Industrialized construction is characterized by 70% preparation and 30% execution. That’s why the design process of this construction method is becoming even more important compared to classical construction works. Within the execution stage a deficiency compatible planning of the building system and precast plant can only be corrected by involving substantial extra time and expenses. To avoid this, an integrated design process conflating the interests of building technology and machine technology is indispensable. Regardless of whether a huge amount of housing must be created in a very short space of time, or commercial buildings must be constructed quickly, all types of buildings are built in a cost efficient way. The industrialized building system is the future of construction – if you keep the construction cycle under control.

Value engineering in building design and construction

Value engineering or Value Management (see the European Community's SPRINT programme) comprising Value Planning and Value Analysis, is used to solve problems, identify and eliminate unwanted costs, while improving function and quality. The aim is to increase the value of products, satisfying the product’s performance requirements at the lowest possible cost. In construction, this involves considering the availability of materials, construction methods, transportation issues, site limitations or restrictions, planning and organisation, costs, profits and so on. Benefits that can be delivered include a reduction in life cycle costs, improvement in quality, reduction of environmental impacts,and so on.
Value engineering starts at project inception where the benefits can be greatest, however the contractor may also have a significant contribution to make as long as the changes required to the contract do not affect the timescales, completion dates or incur additional costs that outweigh the savings on offer.

Value engineering involves:

• Identifying the main elements of a product, service or project
• Analysing the functions of those elements
• Developing alternative solutions for delivering those functions
• Assessing the alternative solutions
• Allocating costs to the alternative solutions
• Developing in more detail the alternatives with the highest likelihood of success

Value engineering is an exercise that involves most of the project team as the project develops, by selecting the most cost-effective solution. However it is about taking a wider view and looking at the selection of materials, plant, equipment and processes to see if a more cost-effective solution exists that will achieve the same project objectives.

Value Engineering and Sustainability

Sustainable Value Engineering is concerned with maximising value, not just reducing costs, it seeks optimum solutions to remove unnecessary waste and reduce life cycle costs whilst improving function, quality and sustainability.

Unnecessary waste might include; unnecessary cost, materials, resources, energy, water, time, plant, lead-in times, transportation, maintenance, replacement and disposal activity.
Although widely used in construction as a purchasing approach to reduce costs, it is now regaining its status as a key modern project management technique: Project planning and the development of design proposals, project execution, quality and environmental management plans.

Project sustainability, addressing for example material sustainability impact, (eg. life cycle, carbon, health and biophilic impacts) circular economy approaches, (eg, design for de-construction and de-assembly) low carbon solutions (eg off site assembly and production) social impact (eg, safety, wellness, local, skills, transport, community impact).
Combined with supplier engagement through last planner or briefing sessions it can be a powerful tool for exploring integrated and shared economy approaches (eg shared resources, labour, suppliers, deliveries)

Enhanced Lean Manufacturing in Building Construction

This track covers Work Standardization, 5S Workplace Organization, Visual Controls, Batch Size Reduction, Points of Use Storage, Quality at the Source, Workflow Practice, Improved Information and Product Flow, Cellular Manufacturing, Pull & Synchronous Scheduling, Six Sigma & Total Quality, Rapid Setup, Work Teams for Cell Management & Process Improvement, Simplified scheduling and Kanban inventory management (the Toyota Model) and Lean PD Assessment Tools

Building Printing

Building printing refers to various technology that use 3D printing as a way to construct 3D printed residential buildings. Potential advantages of this process include quicker construction, lower labor costs, and less waste produced. 3D printing at a large scale may be well suited for construction of extraterrestrial printed structures on the Moon or other planets where environmental conditions are less conducive to human labor-intensive building practices.

Developments in additive manufacturing technologies have included attempts to make 3D printers capable of producing structural buildings.

Building Information Modelling -(BIM)

Building information modeling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building information models (BIMs) are files (often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data) which can be exchanged or networked to support decision-making about a place. Current BIM software is used by individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, design, construct, operate and maintain diverse physical infrastructures, such as water, wastewater, electricity, gas, refuse and communication utilities, roads, bridges and ports, houses, apartments, schools and shops, offices, factories, warehouses and prisons.

POSTER SESSION

The poster session only features work in progress. Next to the actual poster presentation, these submissions also feature as short papers in the Proceedings.

STUDENTS SESSION

This session is for students who want to present their work in
progress or part of their doctoral thesis as a paper. Student papers
are denoted by the fact that only the name of the student appears on
the paper as an author. They are published as short papers in the
Proceedings.

DIVERSE ACTIVITIES

For demonstrations or video sessions, please contact EUROSIS.
Special session will be set up for vendor presentations in co-
ordination with the scientific program. User Group meetings for
simulation languages and tools can be organised the day before the
conference. If you would like to arrange a meeting, please contact
the Conference Chairs. We will be happy to provide a meeting room
and other necessary equipment.
Partners for projects session(s) will be organised by EUROSIS to
give potential project teams or individuals the opportunity to
present their research in order to link up with fellow researchers
for future research projects. Those wishing to participate in this
session need to send a proposal to EUROSIS.

EXHIBITION

A special exhibition is evisaged to be held during the conference focused on

Journal Publication

Only accepted and presented extended papers are eligible for journal publication in any of the journals listed here.

Quality Control

In order to ensure the quality of the proceedings, Thomson-Reuters ISI and IET will receive the listing of the actually presented papers, next to the copies of the Proceedings.

EUROSIS Proceedings are ISI-Thomson, IET, SCOPUS and Engineering Village referenced.

Conference Fees

Included in the registration fee:

• Free entrance to all sessions
• One copy of the full paper proceedings

• If there are tutorials: free access to a professional development seminar, including material
• All coffee and tea during the morning and afternoon breaks
• Lunches during the full conference days
• The social event for one person, including the conference dinner

Authors are expected to register early (at a reduced fee) and to attend the conference at their expense to present the accepted papers. Without early registration and payment, the paper will NOT be published in the conference Proceedings. In the case of multiple authors, one author should be identified as the person who will act as correspondent for the paper.
Non-Authors can also register for a ONE DAY participation of € 380

STUDENTS

Students who are authors, pay a registration of € 385. To qualify as a student author you need to send in together with your paper a copy of your student card. Student papers are only accepted as student papers if only the name of the student appears as author of the paper or in the case of multiple authors, all authors should be students. EUROSIS should be informed before the final paper is submitted.

GROUPS

Authors from the same institution or project can present several papers at the event and will qualify for a special discount as a group. (a group denotes at least 3 people). Discounted prices can be requested from Philippe Geril. Prices vary according to submission types and numbers.

The full registration fee includes one copy of the Conference
Proceedings, coffee and tea during the breaks, all lunches, and
a conference dinner.

PAPER SUBMISSION TYPES
FULL PAPER (5 to 8 pages, including abstract, conclusions, diagrams, references)
During review, the submitted full papers can be accepted as a
regular 5 page paper. If excellent, full papers can be accepted by
the program committee as an extended (8-page) paper. Each submission
will be reviewed by at least three members of the IAH'2017
International Program Committee.

EXTENDED ABSTRACT (at least five pages)
Participants may also submit a 5 page extended abstract for a
regular (5 pages) or short (3-4 pages) paper or poster, which will be
reviewed by the International Program Committee. All accepted papers
will be published in the IAH'2017 Conference Proceedings.

SHORT ABSTRACT (at least three to four pages)
Participants may also submit a 3-4 page abstract for a short paper or
poster, which will be reviewed by the International Program
Committee. All accepted papers will be published in the IAH'2017
Conference Proceedings.

OUTSTANDING PAPER AWARD

The 2017 IAH Conference Committee will select the Outstanding Paper of the Conference.
The author of this paper will be awarded a free registration for a EUROSIS conference.
Only papers SUBMITTED AS FULL papers will be eligible for the Outstanding Paper Award.
This award is valid for a period of TWO years and entails a signed certificate, a chance
for publication in a journal and a free registration for one author within those two years
after the initial conference.
