Challenges and trends in software service-based systems
Abstract
In general terms, a service is "the application of competencies for the benefit of another", which involves a negotiated exchange between the service supplier and the customer. The use of this concept in the ICT domain led to Service-Oriented Architecture systems, which are built as collections of distributed services that encapsulate specific functionalities. The continuous increase in customer requirements forced suppliers to explore new interdisciplinary approaches to the study, design, and implementation of complex services systems that respond to customer needs and are built collaboratively by producers and consumers.
In this talk we discuss actual challenges and future trends in software service-based systems. An important issue for service suppliers is the ability to offer the required quality specified in Service Level Agreement (SLA) but at low cost. Good quality means that services are more adaptable to user profiles, context and situations. It also means more secure, available, fault tolerant and easy to use services. The low cost means efficient resource management and energy saving methods. Intelligent and context aware solutions to ensure SLA at low cost, respond to the high dynamicity of distributed environments, and simplify systems' development will be presented. The talk will also refer to the integrated approach of developing services based on gathering the benefits and results from computer science, ICT engineering, management, social, and legal sciences.
