Abstract
Gamification or the use of game-thinking and game mechanics has succeeded in motivating and engaging learners and workers across many organizations working in different fields. Adding gamification to user experiences can increase participation, loyalty, and more and when done right it can help align our interests with the intrinsic motivations of our players (learners, workers, users, or customers). This talk aims to highlight the opportunities it presents across a number of practices and applications within a police force. The talk also demonstrates the gamification ability to motivate and engage learners by presenting the findings from the use of serious games for training in Dubai police and other forces in the region for more than two years. The success of serious games in Dubai police and other forces has encouraged us to go beyond motivating learners to motivating workers. The potential for engaging workers to foster the desired behaviours through gamification is presented and the possible challenges and implications for Dubai police are discussed.
