Set in the Royal Park of Greenwich, the National Maritime Museum is one of the most beautiful collections of buildings in the world and houses unrivalled historical collections on ships, seafaring, navigation, and the maritime arts. The main collections form the heart of the museum and illustrate the great themes of Britain and the sea, empire and cultural interchange, sea-power, maritime technology, exploration and navigation; boats, relics, manuscripts, historic photographs, ship models and plans, paintings, prints, drawings, decorative art objects and archive film. |

One of the key attractions is the Nelson Gallery. This gallery was officially opened on 21 October 1995 - the 190th anniversary of his most famous victory - the Battle of Trafalgar. It examines the Nelson phenomenon in all its aspects and the museum holds the world's largest and most important collection of relics, memorabilia and commemoratives of Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson, including the musket ball which killed him and the uniform he wore on that fateful day. Other galleries and exhibitions included All-Hands - a new interactive gallery for children, Seapower in the Twentieth Century and the War and Trade at Sea exhibition. |
